Shavuot

The sun will set here in Beer Sheva shortly and the holiday of Shavuot will begin. Preparations for the trip became secondary today to preparations for the holiday. I went on a foray to the grocery store along with all the others in town (and throughout Israel) for the same purpose: to buy ingredients for quiches and kugels and cheesecakes and cheese-filled pastries. Razelle and I spent the afternoon cooking and baking. I cooked up a vegetable soup with three kinds of squash and baked my famous killer cheesecake (this time with blueberry topping). Razelle baked a noodle and cheese kugel with apples and raisins, she baked fish (sole) and prepared a sauce to go on it, and she made a spinach and onion dish. As a bonus, to make the holiday brighter, the Army gave our son Shalev leave to spend the holiday with us. Our guests will arrive shortly, so I will wish you all a Happy Holiday, wherever you are reading this, and then go get ready to welcome them to our table.
